General characteristics of the graduate's profile
The graduate of the study programme Slavistics - Slavic Languages possesses a range of theoretical knowledge that enables him/her to think creatively in terms of the intentions of his/her chosen or own scientific research. The volume of theoretical knowledge allows him/her to orient in the spectrum of methodologies that have emerged and developed within the world linguistics. He/She is oriented in the methodological concepts of linguistic schools and has a detailed knowledge of a range of linguistic theories and methodology of scientific schools that focus on Slavistics and Slavic languages. Based on theoretical knowledge, he/she can choose a methodological concept from one of the linguistic schools, so that he/she is able to apply relevant research methods and subsequently produce his/her own text on original/own empirical research. The graduate of the doctoral studies has a detailed knowledge of research methods from relevant and crucial areas of world and Slavic linguistics and can apply them creatively. In the sense of the synergistic principle of research, he/she understands broader interdisciplinary inferences, especially from the field of linguistic Slovakistics and related disciplines, not only from the philological sciences, such as literary science, ethnolinguistics or cognitive linguistics, but also from the field of linguistic anthropology, sociology, conceptual studies, cultural studies, etc. He/She examines the chosen Slavic language or Slovak language in the context of the current state of scientific research and transnational linguistic contexts. The graduate of doctoral studies can collaborate on research tasks, participate in research projects, independently acquire and conduct research projects, formulate and publish the results of primary research and formulate the corresponding professional conclusions. Building on the theoretical-methodological knowledge acquired in the doctoral studies, the graduate can adapt to the requirements of practice or to the requirements of the workplace engaged in scientific research. Based on the experience in primary research, he/she realises the importance of teamwork as well as the necessity to join or apply for domestic and international grants.
Theoretical knowledge
The graduate of the study programme:
- has extensive and comprehensive knowledge of Slovak, Slovakistics and Slavic linguistics that he/she can relate to the relevant methodology;
- understands the methodology of linguistics as a scientific field in the context of diachronic and synchronic research and relevant scientific interpretation;
- during the doctoral studies, the graduate has acquired sufficient insight and orientation in the methodological foundations of various linguistic trends and scientific schools, both in the direct interaction during the teaching process, and also indirectly by studying domestic and foreign literature;
- can anchor interdisciplinary contexts professionally and methodologically;
- understands and can creatively apply the methodology of currently developing and advancing disciplines such as: sociolinguistics, communication theory, psycholinguistics, pragmalinguistics, theories of speech acts, cognitive linguistics, ethnolinguistics, etc.
- has knowledge of systemic linguistics;
- understands the relationship between systemic linguistics and expository, pragmatic, textual and constructional linguistics or the relationship to other linguistic disciplines;
- regarding the concept of scientific paradigm, knows standard and specific research methods;
- can investigate, explain and interpret linguistic phenomena in the context of historical linguistic concepts;
- can make erudite analyses in the field of Slovakistics;
- is oriented in diverse methodological directions of linguistic schools;
- is competent to comprehensively analyse textual sources of a historical nature;
- can expertly interpret linguistic phenomena in historical textual artefacts as well as in literary texts;
- in terms of scientific research of language, is aware of all the functions that every natural language has and understands the corresponding broader sociolinguistic contexts;
- can interpret discursive phenomena due to acquired transferable interpretative competences;
- on the basis of his/her theoretical knowledge and experience with primary research, he/she can reliably identify various linguistic phenomena, both in current discourse and in historical texts;
- respects the close relationship between language and culture, as well as the linguistic and cultural specificities of each national language community;
- understands the principles and methodological procedures of both diachronic and synchronic linguistics;
- understands the meaning of contrastive linguistics and the employed comparative methods;
- knows the sociolinguistic circumstances of bilingualism and multilingualism and can identify and further analyse their accompanying phenomena of a linguistic nature;
- is aware of the relationship between language and culture and the reflection of culture in language, especially in contrastive-comparative phraseology;
- can productively link, adapt and exapt (functionally change - transform) methodological starting points in order to be able to functionally use them for own and specific point of view in terms of his/her own research.

The graduate of the study programme
- knows linguistic terminology and can use it independently;
- has an advanced methodological base stemming from the knowledge of linguistic scientific schools;
- can actively acquire knowledge and information related to his/her research and use it critically and meaningfully;
- knows how to use information and communication technologies;
- knows how to use corpus databases for linguistic data retrieval;
- can creatively apply linguistic theories and concepts and related methodology in his/her own scientific research;
- forms his/her own judgement critically, as a result of a multiple and multifaceted analysis;
- bases his/her own scientific opinions on the results of partial analyses, which he/she alternates with relevant syntheses, thus creating a prerequisite for further possible categorisations;
- subjects the results of analytical-synthesising and comparative operations to complex mental processes;
- can link partial knowledge into meaningful units and create concepts as ideational units that interact with other scientific linguistic concepts as well as with more or less compatible concepts of related and less related disciplines;
- accepts the diversity of research approaches and can interpret his/her own research in their context;
- is able to scientifically process and professionally interpret research phenomena;
- is able to carry out primary research to the expected (at least standard) level;
- not only is he/she able to participate in research projects, but also to actively submit proposals and manage acquired projects;
- has the linguistic competence that enables him/her to enter into or stimulate professional discourse at international level in a world language;
- has the level of linguistic-communicative competence in a foreign language at level that enables him/her to develop his/her research efforts in an international context;
- addresses the research topic by applying the chosen methodology and using appropriate research methods anticipating analytical-synthesising and complex or conceptual mental processes;
- interprets the knowledge he/she has reached in his/her scientific work in original texts published in accordance with the ethical principles of scientific work;
- contributes to the development of the scientific field in which he/she is active through independent scientific work, primary research and publication of the results of his/her creative scientific research activities.

Based on the acquired professional skills and scientific knowledge, skills and transferable competences, the graduates of PhD degree Slavistics - Slavic Languages are qualified to work as scientists in the field of linguistics; in academic environment they can be employed as university teachers of Slavic languages and lecturers at universities or other institutions focused on Slavistics. Linguistic, translation and interpreting competences, as well as knowledge of the relationship between language and culture, enable them to work in humanitarian organisations and cultural institutions.

- is a university teacher - assistant professor - at the Department of Russian Studies at the University of Ss. Cyril and Methodius in Trnava. She also has a position of a project manager at the Department. Her job position proves she has acquired competences, as defined in the description of theoretical knowledge and practical skills of the graduate’s profile of the study programme Slavistics - Slavic Languages. Apart from coordinating the doctoral studies, O. Iermachkova is involved in organising a student scientific competition (ŠVOUČ), which is an important source of experience for each PhD student engaged in scientific research. The knowledge and her personal experience gained during her PhD studies (Slavistics - Slavic Languages at CPU in Nitra) is now used in her everyday work.

The Faculty of Arts CPU in Nitra has procedures and tools in place to approve, monitor and evaluate the implementation of study programmes, concerning (i) the definition of formal procedures for the approval of study programmes by bodies other than those implementing them; (ii) the development of study programmes carried out at the faculty; (iii) monitoring the availability of appropriate teaching resources for the implementation of study programmes; (iv) formulating the expected learning outcomes and checking the actual outcomes in relation to the graduate’s profile; (v) monitoring student achievement and educational attainment; (vi) the regular evaluation and review of study programmes; (vii) the involvement of students in study programme evaluation activities and ensuring feedback from employers, labour market representatives and other relevant organisations regarding the graduates’ employability.
Curriculum design, including its content and form is based on (i) the description of the fields of study and accreditation criteria/standards; (ii) the professional and qualification potential of creative workers and (iii) the interest of applicants and the needs of the labour market. Study programmes are prepared in accordance with the formalised quality assurance processes of CPU and the Faculty that determine responsibilities for each quality management process

The availability of teaching resources for the implementation of study programmes is ensured by the faculty in cooperation with its departments and institutes by means of purchases of literature resources, editorial work of the faculty, as well as establishing e-learning educational courses. The achievement of the expected learning outcomes, as set out in course information sheets, is evaluated through student assessment questionnaires, in periodic evaluation reports on educational activities and in the state exams success rate, as well as the analysis of evaluations recorded in AIS. Regular evaluation and review of study programmes is carried out by the person responsible for the study programme, department staff, through student assessment questionnaires and quality assurance bodies at the faculty and university level.
Teachers involved in the implementation of the study programme regularly update the content of their courses with the knowledge acquired from participating in scientific research projects. They publish the results of their scientific research activities in indexed periodicals, monographs and textbooks, which serve as study literature for students of the study programme. The results of their scientific research and publication activities are presented and promoted in scientific and professional events aimed at the professional community and students. The faculty receives feedback on the graduates’ employability success rate from employers or graduates by means of surveys initiated at level of faculty management and its departments/institutes.

Block - Compulsory courses / Obligations resulting from the completion of studies (Dissertation Defence, Defence of Initial Chapters of Dissertation, Applied Linguistics, Systemic Linguistics, General Linguistics).
The curriculum of the study programme, which is composed of several blocks, includes the study and scientific sections. In the study section, Compulsory Courses, Compulsory Optional Courses and Optional Courses are specified. The first block (Compulsory Courses) is a block of theoretical courses that contribute to widening of the student's theoretical knowledge in the field of linguistics, methodology of scientific research and processing of research results, history of linguistic theories and concepts, in the field of textual linguistics (e.g. in the context of functional use of phrases, political metaphor or advertising discourse). Based on lectures, professional consultations and independent study of the latest literature, the student acquires advanced theoretical knowledge in the studied field as well as practical skills of application of this knowledge for his/her own research, its preparation, implementation, conducting and presentation of results. Upon their completion, the student has theoretical knowledge to conduct a professional discussion on the studied subject matter, critically evaluate the theoretical and research findings, adopt a standpoint and defend his/her research results.
From the second block - compulsory optional courses - the student selects courses in relation to his/her own research. This block provides options for an individual student's study path. The student chooses disciplines in accordance with his/her focus on Slavic language research or on comparatively oriented research in relation to Slovak language. In this part of the study programme, there is an opportunity for improvement in foreign languages, both in English and Russian, is an important part of the study (regarding its focus).
The third block of courses - Optional courses - relates to the student's pedagogical activity, during which the student acquires practical skills in the field of teaching linguistic disciplines and verifies his/her ability to conduct and professionally evaluate scientific presentations (SVOUČ) and final (Bachelor) theses of students at lower degrees of study.
The scientific section of the study programme consists of these blocks: Scientific Section - Projects, Scientific Section - Publications and Other Activities. Scientific Section - Projects - this is a block of courses dedicated to the student's scientific activity that includes project activities; Scientific Section - Publications - include publication activities and presentations at conferences; Other activities – reflect on the student's presentations and organisational activities. The student must demonstrate that he/she can independently propose a simple research project (at the level of the University Grants Agency - UGA), apply for funding and conduct his/her own research. Together with his/her supervisor, the student may also be involved in other, larger projects of a national or international nature. The student must also be able to present results of his/her research in publications and at scientific events of various kinds, which he/she must also learn to prepare professionally. The study plan also includes courses related to the dissertation examination and the dissertation defense at the end of studies.

In total, the student must obtain a minimum of 180 credits, out of which a maximum of 65 credits are for the study section, a maximum of 64 credits are for the scientific section, 13 credits are for the Initial Chapters of Dissertation and its defense and 38 credits for the obligations arising from the completion of the study.
Each course of the study plan has in its information sheet precisely specified content and learning outcomes, its delivery and implementation - relevant methods by which educational and other professional activities are performed, the criteria and rules of its evaluation and the conditions for obtaining credits, so that the maximum quality of the specified outcomes of the study programme is achieved. The student relevant information also includes recommended study literature related to the courses. The course information sheet also contains the name of the teacher or several teachers responsible for the performance and assessment of the required outcomes of the course.
For proper completion of studies the student must obtain a minimum of 180 ECTS credits;
- a min. number of credits for compulsory courses is 25 ECTS credits;
- a min. of number of credits for compulsory optional courses required for proper completion of studies/completion of a part of studies: 15 ECTS credits;
-a min. of number of credits for optional courses required for proper completion of studies/completion of a part of studies: 25 ECTS credits;
- the number of credits for the scientific section is 64, of which 10 credits for the participation in scientific projects and 54 credits for publishing activity;
- 13 ECTS credits for Initial Chapters of Dissertation (a part of thesis submitted before the dissertation examination and its presentation) presentation ;
- 8 ECTS credits for state examinations;
- a min number of credits for the dissertation and its defense required for proper completion of studies 30 ECTS credits;
The study programme has clear and transparently published rules, criteria and methods of evaluation of study results in information sheets for individual course that are accessible through AIS to all students. The course information sheets are accessible via AIS to all students. Students also get feedback in the form of continuous assessment. The results of the continuous and final assessment of courses are recorded in the AIS and archived in accordance with legislation in force.

The study programme in question is delivered in lecture and seminar rooms equipped with computers with installed relevant software and other didactic aids. By default, lecture rooms are equipped with a desktop computer with Internet connection and webcam, a data projector, a projector screen, a white and interactive boards and a lectern. In addition, large lecture rooms are also equipped with a sound system with fixed/wireless microphone, as well as a system for recording and broadcasting lectures. This technology, apart from promoting an e-learning form of teaching, increases the accessibility of content and increases possibilities for the promotion of specific educational activities among students and Faculty staff. For this reason, TV panels are installed in the common areas, displaying recorded individual lectures, leisure time events or live streams from lecture rooms. Seminar rooms are also equipped with a sound system, a desktop computer connected to the Internet, a web camera and a data projector. The maintenance and continuous upgrading and replacement of the material and technical equipment is financed mainly from structural funds and research projects.
The Department of Russian Studies and the Department of Slovak Language and Literature, whose members participate in this PhD programme, are located on the second floor of the Faculty of Arts, CPU building at Štefánikova 67, Nitra.
Department of Russian Studies and its staff have at their disposal 4 office rooms, 8 desktop PCs, 16 laptops, 7 external hard drives, 1 portable data projector, 1 multifunctional device (printer, copier, scanner), 6 printers, 5 scanners, 1 shredder, 1 laminator and 5 photocopiers. All office rooms have a telephone connection and the department computers are connected to the Internet, which allows communication with students and the public at a level corresponding to the today’s standards. The study programme Slavistics - Slavic Languages is delivered in lecture and/or seminar rooms located in the building at Štefánikova 67, Nitra.
Lectures are mostly held in lecture rooms in the building at Trieda Andreja Hlinku 1. The following lecture rooms are designated for the delivery of the study programme Slavistics - Slavic Languages, including the information on capacity and area:

The distance from the seat of the Department of Russian Studies and the Department of Slovak Language and Literature at Štefánikova 67 to the main building of CPU at Tr. Andrej Hlinka 2 is 0.8 km.

Department of Slovak Language and Literature has the following rooms at its disposal:

Department of Russian Studies has the following seminar rooms available at Štefánikova 67:

The Department of Russian Studies has at its disposal two interpreting laboratories in the building at Štefánikova 67.

- room ST-048, capacity 16 seats, 6 interpreter booths, reclining seats, area 69,82 m2.
Both seminar rooms are equipped with a data projector connected to a computer and sound systems.
Both departments use the computer lab in the building at Štefánikova 67:
- classroom ST 213 capacity 24 seats, tables with chairs, area 61,84 m2; 2nd floor;
This classroom is equipped with 30 computers, a data projector, a camera and sound system.
Study literature
The University Library of CPU, located at Drážovská cesta 4, Nitra, is available to students of the study programme. Opening hours: Monday - Friday 9.00 - 20.00, Saturday 8.00 - 13.00. With its mission, the University Library focuses on ensuring free access to information disseminated on all kinds of media through library and information services, meeting the cultural, information, scientific research and educational needs of users, promoting lifelong learning and the spiritual development of people. The library provides library services (interlibrary, consultation, reference, bibliographic and research services) to teachers, researchers and students, as well as to the general public. In addition, it stores and bibliographically registers the qualification theses of university students, scientific and pedagogical staff and the publishing and artistic activities of pedagogical, scientific staff and doctoral students of CPU. The CPU library collections comprise 230 thousand items, out of which 168 960 items are located in the main library building and the rest of the library collections are located in departmental/local libraries. The library collections are freely available. The University Library has access to licensed information resources within the national NISPEZ project (Gale Virtual Reference Library, Knovel Library, ProQuest Central, Science Direct, Scopus, Springer Link, Web of Knowledge, Wiley Online Library and EBSCO Publishing). There are also three remote study rooms: at Dražovská cesta 4, Hodžova ul. 1 and Kraskova Street. 1. Compulsory literature resources are freely available in the study rooms. Information about the library's services and activities can be found on the library's website www.uk.ukf.sk. The library's collections are processed in the library-information system DAWINCI and they are accessible through the on-line catalogue. The library provides access to the Internet, and in a book shop it sells textbooks and publications published by CPU in Nitra. In the University Library and its premises there is a free WIFI access.
Students of the study programme and staff of both the Department of Russian Studies and the Department of Slovak Language and Literature may access the study room at Hodžova 1 and the departmental library. It contains more than 600 titles, but the collection expands, as new titles proposed by department staff are regularly added, which allows students to follow the latest knowledge and trends in the field. Funds for the purchase of books are gained primarily from project grants.
In the department library of the Department of Russian Studies, 493 items (academic and partly also artistic literature in Russian and Slovak + dictionaries of foreign terms, translation, monolingual, explanatory, etymological and phraseological dictionaries (Russian-Slovak phraseological dictionary, dictionaries of synonyms of the Russian language, technical, pocket dictionaries, etc.) are available to the staff and students of the Department. Upon suggestion, new books and other resources are gradually purchased and added to the collection.
There are also monographs of the members of the department, which have been published in foreign publishing houses and are written, for example, in Russian, English or Belarusian.
In the department library of the Department of Slovak Language and Literature there are 584 books related to the field of linguistics and 883 book units on literary and scientific topics available to the staff of the Department, as well as to students and doctoral students. The library also comprises explanatory dictionaries of the Slovak language, from the oldest editions to the most recent ones - several editions. The library collection is regularly supplemented with new up-to-date dictionaries of the Slovak language, but it is also growing with proceedings from scientific conferences and foreign titles published by Slovak studies departments abroad, which are usually a gift, or come from joint scientific events, co-authorship and cooperation in grant projects.
Also, the following periodicals are available: Jazykovedný časopis, Slavica slovaca, Slovenská reč, Slavia - časopis pro slovanskou filologii, Kultúra slova, Slovo a slovesnost'.
Since 2012, the Department of Russian Studies has been publishing its own international scientific journal Slavica Nitriensia, where research results in the field of Slavic and non-Slavic linguistics are presented. Information databases and other information resources
CPU uses a number of verified, upgraded existing and new information systems providing information to support management in the following areas:
The complete educational agenda at CPU is managed through the Academic Information System (AIS). The system processes data on education of a particular student from the time of submission of his/her application for university studies, through registration of study results to registration and printing of diplomas and other credentials. In addition to study results, it also contains records of the final thesis, schedule of lessons and enrolment of students. Data from the AIS are uploaded to the Central Register of Students, the Central Register of Theses and Dissertations and the register of universities - PortalVS.sk. At the management level, the AIS serves as a resource for reporting and assessment of teaching activities of departments and their staff. The information collected in the AIS is the fundamental source of information for the accreditation and creation of the offer of study programmes.
Document Management (DOC) - (document management system) serves as an authorised zone for employees and students of the university and, along with the intranet section of the website, it provides access to current documents (internal regulations of the university and faculty, forms, decisions of the rector, deans, e.g., concerning scholarships, software (licensed and open-source), working materials of management units, etc).
The Library Information System (KIS): management of the University library services. The register of publishing activity is operated within the library information system, allowing access to the personnel publishing activities of each employee at the level of recording, as well as obtaining publishing and citation outputs. The data collected serve as a source for the evaluation of staff and departments in the field of publishing performance and at the same time constitute a source for the Central Register of Publication Activity. Study support is provided through study materials that are delivered to students through multiple channels. The primary source is the newly built University Library in the Zobor Campus of CPU with its study rooms in Hodžova and Kraskova Streets.
E-learning portals are a secondary source of study materials. In September 2007, LMS Moodle was implemented as a university-wide e-learning portal in a structure corresponding to the structure of the university (faculties divided into departments). The edu.ukf.sk portal is designed to support the teaching of accredited courses. The number of users of the EDU system exceeds 13,500 users per year (of which about one third are active), which can be understood as a smooth promotion of e-learning in the university environment. The successful implementation of Structural Fund projects involving the development of e-learning courses has contributed to this fact.
Within the framework of the NISPEZ managed by CVTI SR, the University library CPU gained access to the following electronic information databases: SCOPUS, SpringerLink, Wiley Online Library, ProQuest Central, ScienceDirect, Knovel Library, Web of Knowledge - Current Contents Connect (CCC), Web of Knowledge - Essential Science Indicators (ESI), Web of Knowledge - Journal Citation Reports (JCR), Web of Knowledge - MEDLINE, Web of Knowledge - Web of Science (WOS), Web of Knowledge - Korean Journal Database, Web of Knowledge - Russian Science Citation Index, Web of Knowledge - SciELO Citation Index.
As a result of cooperation with the Slovak National Library in Martin, the University Library has access to the databases of the American company EBSCO Publishing: Academic Search Complete, Agricola, AHFS Consumer Medication Information, Business Source Premier, ERIC, GreenFile, Health Source - ConsumerEdition, Health Source: Nursing/Academic Edition, Humanities International Complete, Library, Information Science & Technology Abstracts, MasterFILE Premier, MEDLINE with Full Text, Newspaper Source, Regional Business News, Teacher Reference Center.
The University features a number of specialised ICT-equipped classrooms. In addition, students have free access to computer boxes in the corridors, practically in all buildings of the university. CPU currently has 790 PCs for students. The purchase of the above-mentioned ICTs and their maintenance was funded from the projects Modernizáciou infraštruktúry k zlepšeniu kvality vzdelávania and Rozvoj infraštruktúry so zameraním na IKT – podmienka pre vzdelávanie v 3. tisícroč (2010 -2012), however since then the ICTs have undergone complete renovation and upgrade. More than 100 classrooms were equipped with data projectors and connected workstations as part of these projects. Specialised classrooms were created and equipped (a special language lab equipped with software for translators; 2 classrooms equipped with complete interpreting equipment; a specialised audio-visual classroom; research, recording and communication centre and a university creative studio).
A significant step ahead in the field of e-learning is the integration of a system for recording and broadcasting lectures, which has been installed in 5 lecture rooms (one in per faculty). Also, the Faculty of Arts boasts such a specialised lecture room. In addition to increasing the accessibility of content, this technology provides space for promotion and communication with the general public.
The basis of the technical infrastructure of data and telecommunication networks is a 10 Gb/s optical network built within the framework of the Structural Funds projects (Modernizáciou infraštruktúry k zlepšeniu kvality vzdelávania and Rozvoj infraštruktúry so zameraním na IKT – podmienka pre vzdelávanie v 3. tisícročí). Due to structural funds, the wireless signal coverage has been extended and is now available in all buildings of the University. CPU currently has 113 wireless access points.
The computer network and the operation of the information systems are provided by several dozen servers that have been gradually expanded thanks to funding from the Structural Funds. Nowadays, information systems in most cases run on virtual systems, which saves energy costs and increases the security of systems against intrusions.
In order to provide basic educational support for students, an e-mail system has been set up by the university, and each student upon enrolment to study acquires his/her own e-mail account for official communication with the institution.
In addition to e-mail communication, communication via department websites and distribution of messages in the AIS system, information for student is displayed on large screens integrated into the university's information system. This technology has been implemented within the project Rozvoj infraštruktúry so zameraním na IKT – podmienka pre vzdelávanie v 3. tisícročí and its aim is to provide up-to-date information, multimedia presentations as well as presentations of individual departments at the most frequented places of the university.
Our participation in the Eduroam project represents a significant modernisation, as this infrastructure enables students and academic staff to connect to a computer network at another academic institution without having to register or obtain additional credentials. Therefore, connecting to the network requires only the username and password that the user owns from the home institution. This network can be used by both university visitors and our students and staff.
As part of the implementation of the quality assurance in education and research, an information system superstructure has been built in recent years to map the activity, productivity and results of the university's creative staff. It resulted in closer cooperation of the individual systems and in the creation of an integrating portal that simplifies access to the individual university information systems.
The main communication channel presenting and promoting the university is the university website. It has undergone several changes over the past years. In the first phase, the design was changed and made clearer, while during the second phase a content management tool was deployed to allow easy and user-friendly maintenance and updating of content. Subsequently, the site management system was also implemented in the faculties and other parts of the university. A secondary source of information intended mainly for students is the presentation of the activities of the University and the Faculty on several social networks, which makes access to information to the target group faster and more efficient.
Teachers of the study programme use videoconferencing systems when necessary, especially https://meet.ukf.sk/, as well as the E-learning portal UKF Moodle and other applications (e.g. MS Teams, etc.) The faculty provides all teachers with special training aimed at mastering distance learning tools.
The Department of Russian Studies and the Department of Slovak Language and Literature of the Faculty of Arts develop cooperation with domestic and foreign academic departments and institutions. Among the domestic institutions, the main cooperation is with the Jan Stanislav Institute of Slavistics in Bratislava. The staff of the Department of Slovak Language and Literature are members of the Slovak Linguistic Society at the Ľudovít Štúr Institute of Linguistics of Slovak Academy of Sciences and many of them are also members of the Linguistic Department of Matica Slovenská.
In the framework of lecture stays, expert and assessment activities the Department of Russian Studies cooperates with all university departments/institutes engaged in Slovakistics and Russian studies from Slovakia (Bratislava,
Trnava, Banská Bystrica, Ružomberok, Prešov). Regarding foreign institutions, such cooperation is primarily performed on the basis of bilateral agreements between the Slovak Republic and the Russian Federation, Ukraine and Belarus in the field of education. In particular, these are the main Russian Studies and linguistic departments/institutes: Russian Federation - Pushkin State Russian Language Institute in Moscow, Kuban State University in Krasnodar, Kemerovo State University, Novokuznetsk Institute of Kemerovo State University; Belarus - Maksim Tank Belarusian State Pedagogical University in Minsk, P. M. Masherov Vitebsk State University; Czech Republic - Institute of Slavic Studies, Faculty of Arts MU in Brno, University of Hradec Kralove; Poland - Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan.
Based on bilateral agreements with the Slovak Academic Information Agency (SAIA), students regularly attend a two-month (or five-month) language course at the Pushkin State Russian Language Institute in Moscow. Within the Erasmus+K107 programme in 2019, PhD students and staff participated in study and teaching mobilities in Minsk and Vitebsk.

Cooperation with the Maksim Tank Belarusian State Pedagogical University in Minsk: Doc. D. Dziatko was the opponent of the dissertation of Mgr. M. Bačová; Prof. I. Kudrevatych cooperates with members of the Department of Russian Studies on the publication of a textbook; within the Erasmus+K107 programme (2019) PhD student Mgr. M. Bačová completed a four-month study stay in Minsk and PhD student Mgr. E. Volk from BDPU spent her mobility in Nitra. Department members - Prof. N. Muránska and M. Bilčiková, PhD. completed a teaching mobility in Minsk, reciprocally Doc. Dziatko and his PhD. student came to Nitra.
Cooperation with P. M. Masherov Vitebsk State University: Doc. T. Nikitenko, who participates in a KEGA project, spent her study stay at the Department of Russian Studies in Nitra. In 2019 Prof. S. Nikolajenko and Prof. I. Zajtsova from P. M. Masherov Vitebsk State University participated in a study/lecture stay within the Erasmus+ K107 programme at our Department; and reciprocally Doc. A. Kalechyts, Prof. N. Muranska and also PhD student of this study programme L. Borduhová (supervised by Prof. Zajcovova) visited Vitebsk State University. PhD student L. Borduhová published two scientific papers in Vitebsk; Prof. Nikolayenko was a reviewer of the university textbook Kreativnoje pismo. Toľko načinajem. vol. 1., authored by A. Kalechyts and O. Makarowska. Cooperation with the University of Hradec Králové is represented by PhDr. I. Kalita, who is a co-author of university textbooks published by members of the Department of Russian Studies, Faculty of Arts, CPU.
Cooperation with Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan is represented by Doc. O. Makarowska - she spent her teaching mobility at the Department of Russian Studies (2018), and currently she is collaborating on the preparation of university textbooks. In particular, the cooperation with the Kuban State University in Krasnodar, Kemerovo State University, Novokuznetsk Institute of Kemerovo University aims at exploring national cultures and verbal art, in which language is not only a communication tool, but also reflects the national mentality and the value system of the linguistic-national community. Prof. PhDr. J. Sokolová, CSc. initiated a long-term, fruitful and all-round cooperation with the Jan Stanislav Institute of Slavistics and the Institute of Slavonic Studies of the Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University in Brno.
In recent years, partnership with Belgorod State University has established thanks to the cooperation of N. B. Koriny (Faculty of Arts, CPU in Nitra) with Prof. N. F. Alefirenko, DrSc. who also participates in a KEGA project managed by the Department of Russian Studies. Prof. Boris J. Norman, DrSc. d., from the Belarusian State University in Minsk, completed a teaching mobility at the Department of Russian Studies. He is a co-author of a monograph published at Department of Russian Studies in Nitra. Prof. Wlodzimierz Wysoczanski from the Institute of Slavic Philology in Wroclaw cooperates with the Department of Russian Studies at various scientific and publishing activities. Currently Prof. PhDr. Natália B. Korina, CSc. facilitates cooperation with the University of Vienna in Vienna.
The Department of Slovak Language and Literature, whose members are engaged in the doctoral programme in Slavistics - Slavic Languages, cooperates with the Department of Slovak Language of the University of Novi Sad in Serbia, participates in exchange stays with the Institute of Slavic Philology, University of Silesia in Katowice, with the Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem - Czech Republic (joint research project), with the Department of Czech Studies of the Palacký University in Olomouc, with the Institute of Czech Language and Theory of Communication of Charles University - study stay of Prof. PaedDr. Z. Kováčová, PhD. (invited by Prof. PhDr. K Šebesta, PHD.), with the Department of Czech Language and Literature of Charles University in Prague: systematic participation in international scientific conferences and editorial cooperation (Didaktické studie) journal Didactic Studies, Prof. PaedDr. Z. Kováčová reviewed a monograph by an international team of authors as an output of the research project of the Faculty of Education, Charles University in Prague. In the past, a study stay of PhD student I. Gubani at the Faculty of Central European Studies of Charles University in Prague (supervised by Prof. PhDr. M. Nábělková, CSc.) Prof. PaedDr. Ľ. Kralčák, PhD., represents the Department of Slovak Language and Literature in the International Committee of Slavists. In the past, Prof. PhDr. J. Vaňek, CSc. developed relations with the University of Ljubljana and Prof. PhDr. J. Glovňa, CSc. with the University of Novi Sad - Department of Slovak Studies.
Members of the Department of Slovak Language and Literature repeatedly participate in scientific conferences at the Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski - Bulgaria, University of Novi Sad - Serbia, Charles University in Prague, Palacký University in Olomouc, University of Ostrava in Ostrava, University of Jan Evangelista in Ústí nad Labem and University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice.
There is a long-term cooperation with the Ivan Krasko Cultural and Scientific Society in Nadlac, Romania and with the editorial board of the scientific journal Romanoslavica (Prof. PaedDr. Z. Kováčová, PhD. has been a peer-reviewer of papers).
Employees of foreign universities repeatedly become panel members for the defense of dissertations in relevant doctoral programmes, are opponents of dissertations and reviewers of publications prepared at the Department of Russian Studies and Department of Slovak Language and Literature at which the assessed programme of Slavistics - Slavic Languages is delivered and participate in research projects at these departments of the Faculty of Arts in Nitra.
Among the domestic institutions, cooperation with the Jan Stanislav Institute of Slavistics of the Slovak Academy of Sciences and the Ľudovít Štúr Institute of Linguistics of the Slovak Academy of Sciences in Bratislava, as well as with all Slavic and Slovak studies institutions in the Slovak Republic, is particularly fruitful.
Both departments organise popularisation events with the participation of the Slovak Writers' Association and its foreign partners.
Social security, sports, cultural, spiritual and social activities of the students of CPU is part of the CPU Long-Term Strategy for the Period 2019 - 2025 and the Faculty of Arts, CPU Long-Term Strategy for 2019 - 2022. Alongside higher education and research, engaging with and providing the specific know-how of universities to support the development of society and specifically the region in which the university operates is the third main pillar of the university's mission. To this end, the university also uses feedback from its alumni and other participants in the social and cultural life of the region.
The Hall of Residence CPU Nitra is home to the University Creative Studio. It is an integral cultural rendezvous point for the University students and their ensembles to rehearse and stage theatrical productions, various scenic projects and cultural events. The Creative Studio is also used for educational purposes (workshops, seminars, trainings) within the artistic and artistic-educational study programmes at the university. Ponitran, the oldest folk ensemble at the University, focuses on traditional Slovak folklore with special interest in the Ponitrie Region. The mission of this ensemble is to evolve spare-time activities of the students, follow up on the traditional Slovak culture, interpret it artistically and collect the folklore material from various Slovak regions, but especially from the Nitra and Tekov Regions. The VYDI Student Theatre was founded in 1992. During an academic year, student actors rehearse one production that is staged for a domestic audience in the University Creative Studio of the faculty. They also take part in various regional shows or thematic festivals. The participation of students in this body is not limited only to theatrical productions, but a diverse range of variable activities also takes place: improligy (improvisation leagues), stand up performances, street parades, Santa's parties, majálesy (student rag in May), cabaret, matriculation, workshops, etc.The civic association JA a MY organises cultural events, exhibitions, concerts, scientific conferences, seminars, discussion forums, round tables, debates, as well as alternative art projects in the national and international context, with an emphasis on supporting the region's all-round artistic development. The association supports budding artists, publicists and scholars of fine art in order to enable them to make a public presentation of their creative and scientific activities. The best-known event organised under the auspice of this association is The Petr Scherhaufer Festival. The Hungarian CPU Choir successfully represents the University on domestic and foreign concert stages, choir festivals and competitions. At The Kodályové dni Festival in Galanta, the national qualification competition of choirs, our choir has repeatedly won the Zlaté pásmo award. The members organise regular concerts and its goal is to cultivate and further revive Kodály's traditions, as well as the dissemination of Hungarian choral culture, primarily among the university youth. The manager of the choir is currently the Faculty of Central European Studies, CPU.
In addition to individual sports, the sports activities of CPU students are focused especially on team sports. The following sports clubs represent the sport life at CPU: Volley Project, BKM Youth Basketball Club, Taekwondo and hockey team Philosophers Nitra.

CPU has its own grant scheme to support students' cultural and sporting events.
Since 2016, the Department of Slovak Language and Literature together with the Department of Russian Studies have been organising Slovanofest - an annual presentation of film production from Slavic countries.
Na slovíčko o slove, a regular event under the auspice of the Slovak Writers’ Association and the Mayor of Nitra, has been organised by CPU and presented to general public in the concert hall of the Nitra Synagogue. Slovak writers are invited to present their work. Students actively participate in the preparation of this event, both in terms of organisation and by interpreting the authors' texts or presenting their own interpretation skills.

The Department of Russian Studies and the Department of Slovak Language and Literature encourage domestic and international mobility and other student activities in accordance with the Internationalisation Strategy of CPU in Nitra for 2019 - 2025. The basic condition for admission to doctoral studies is a completed Master’s degree in philology or a relevant study programme according to § 53 (3) Act no. 131/2002 on Higher Education Institutions and Amendments to Certain Acts, as amended.

Applicants to a PhD study must be graduates of a second-degree study programme or a study programme pursuant to § 53 (3) Act no. 131/2002 on Higher Education Institutions and Amendments to Certain Acts, as amended.
The form of the entrance examination is oral and written. The examination comprises: the presentation and defense of a framework project of dissertation thesis, theoretical knowledge corresponding to the relevant study programme, personal presupposition of the applicant for study, motivation of the applicant and his/her overall results of university studies of second degree or study programme pursuant to § 53 (3) Act 131/2002 Coll. on Higher Education Institutions and Amendments to Certain Acts, as amended. The entrance examination also tests the applicant's ability to communicate professionally in the context of the chosen topic and active knowledge of at least one foreign language in the form of a test.
The entrance exam continues with an interview that has two components:
a) The prospective student submits an initial project of the anticipated dissertation on the topic he/she has chosen from the list of published topics. The extent of the project is no more than 10 standard pages. The project includes:
- the topic and reasons for its selection,
- a description of the current state of research in the subject matter,
- the objectives to be achieved in the dissertation theses;
- the expected structure of the dissertation,
- theoretical-methodological background of the topic and solutions to the research problem,
- expected contribution and own/expert input,
- a list of literature and sources relevant to the researched topic (following bibliographic standards);
b) The professional part focuses on:
- a guided interview with a prospective PhD student to get acquainted with his/her broader theoretical / methodological knowledge and relevant expertise,
- assessment of the professional prerequisites for scientific research work,
- verification of active knowledge of a foreign language (upon submitting a relevant proof of knowledge - diploma, state examination certificate - the applicant is not subject to verification of knowledge of a foreign language),
- an assessment of the list of publications or other results of professional or artistic activity,
- the applicant’s publishing activity is not a condition for admission, but is taken into account in the overall assessment of the entrance exam;
- activities during the study, such as the student scientific competition (ŠVOUČ) is also taken into account.
The entrance exam board is composed of at least 4 members of the Board of Specialists for the given field of study and is appointed by the Dean of the Faculty. The entrance exam board evaluates the fulfilment of all the required criteria, the quality of the elaboration and presentation of the dissertation project and the applicant's prerequisites for the study of the relevant study programme, on the basis of which the examination board determines the ranking of the applicants in terms of their success.
The Dean of the Faculty decides on the admission of the applicant based on the recommendation of the entrance exam board on the success rate of individual applicants and on the basis of the financial possibilities of the faculty. The results of the feedback is crucial information for improving the study programme.
Feedback on the graduates of the PhD programme is positive, reflecting specific competences, skills and transferable competences that the alumni in their job positions actively use. The designer of the study programme seeks to update the programme to reflect the societal and demands of the academic environment in which the alumni are most often to get employed. In terms of improving the quality of the study programme, scientific publications of domestic and foreign authors are regularly added to the library collection, and students are recommended to participate in study stays and internships at foreign universities to perceive the broader context of research in the field in which they perform primary research. In addition to English, students are advised to acquire at least one Slavic language, which is crucial for their professional career, especially in the Slavistics - Slavic Languages field of study.
The feedback of the graduates of the Slavistics - Slavic Languages study programme was collected via social networks and an emailed questionnaire. We also included the graduates of the Slovak Language and Literature programme (it does not continue at the 3rd degree, but the teachers of the Department of Slovak Language and Literature will participate in the study programme Slavistics - Slavic Languages).

In particular, the postdoctoral students commented on the relevance of the disciplines included in the study programme Slavistics - Slavic Languages and on internship opportunities, scholarships and the possibility to study some disciplines at other universities within the Erasmus+ programme. Overall, they welcome the possibility to choose courses regarding their own research (compulsory optional subjects) and their credit values. Mainly, the alumni who have graduated in recent years have had positive experiences with fellowships. Mgr. I. Gubani, PhD. and Mgr. Miriama Bilčíková, PhD. have the most experience with mobility stays, as well as with completion of a part of studies at a foreign university and its subsequent recognition at the Faculty of Arts in Nitra. Also, as a result of this feedback, into the study programme a new course (International Internship) with a credit value has been added in order to encourage our students to participate in study stays.
