2. - Graduate profile and learning objectives
a) - The institution defines the learning objectives of the study programme such as student's abilities at the time of completion of the programme and the main learning outcomes.

The graduate of the study programme Theory of chemistry teaching knows the axiomatic construction of chemistry, the history and epistemology of selected chemical concepts. He/she has a broad knowledge of the selected area of chemistry (General Chemistry; Inorganic Chemistry; Organic Chemistry; Physical Chemistry; Biochemistry; Analytical Chemistry), which serves as a necessary basis for him/her to conduct research in the theory of teaching the given area of chemistry.

The graduate applies the basic pedagogical and psychological foundations of learning and teaching chemistry, including theories of learning and cognitive development. The graduate independently critically analyzes didactic concepts and strategies for teaching chemistry and their impact on active implementation in the chemistry classroom. He/she has a broad overview of innovative teaching methods for developing creativity, imagination and critical thinking, which he/she implements appropriately in the teaching process. He is familiar with modern ways of assessing students' work and activities.

Knowledge:

The graduate has a systematic, coherent and comprehensive body of knowledge in the field of didactics of chemistry and in the related fields of chemistry, including knowledge and understanding of the relationships to other related fields, which serves as a basis for conducting research and development and creating new knowledge in the field of educational sciences. He/she has a systematic understanding and knowledge of the theories, well thought out methods and procedures of educational methodology, research and development at a level of criteria acceptable also internationally as a basis for innovation, thought and creative independence in educational practice or research. The graduate is familiar with qualitative and quantitative research methods in the theory of teaching chemistry, their ontological and epistemological characteristics, the procedure of analysis and presentation of research conclusions. He/she identifies needs for innovation in selected areas of chemistry teaching theory. Can formulate research questions or hypotheses and propose a research design to answer and test them.

In line with the focus of the department, he/she has extensive knowledge of professional chemistry, which enables him/her to design methodological materials usable in school practice at the appropriate level of education. He/she independently plans, designs, organizes students' activities focused on experimental activities and appropriately implements the school measurement system (Coach, Vernier, etc.) into the teaching unit. He/she knows the professional terminology and didactic-pedagogical principles in the innovation, alternation as well as presentation of school experiments.

Skills

The graduate is familiar with the scientific literature, identifies fundamental and current research results in the theory of teaching chemistry. He/she is also familiar with the major international studies in the theory of chemistry teaching (TIMSS, PISA, etc.) and is able to critically analyse and implement their results in his/her own scientific focus. He/she independently acquires new knowledge and information in the field of didactics, which he/she is able to analyse, review and verify. He/she applies his/her findings to his/her own work and scientific research and designs, verifies and implements new research and working practices in the field of didactics of chemistry and natural sciences and pedagogical practice. He/she can identify world scientific and innovative developments in didactics and implement them in the development of the field, applying knowledge from other scientific fields.

Competencies:

The graduate is characterized by independent, critical and analytical thinking about the facts of scientific reality and education of science subjects, taking into account the relationships between them also in the context of changing social conditions, taking into account the pedagogical-psychological and didactic aspects. He/she can design a project, carry it out independently or coordinate a team, evaluate and interpret the experimental results of his/her own research within the framework of teaching and educational sciences. He/she is able to present the results of his/her own research in the form of a scientific article and present it to the professional and lay community in the Slovak Republic and abroad. The graduate is characterized by responsibility and leadership in the field of education or theory of teaching, is able to plan and implement his/her own development and the development of society in the context of scientific and technological progress. He/she takes into account social, scientific and ethical aspects when formulating research plans and interpreting research results. The graduate critically evaluates and meaningfully applies didactic software to the teaching of chemistry, respecting the processes of instrumental genesis and instrumental orchestration.

He/she collaborates in the organization of scientific events: seminars, conferences, schools for doctoral students and young scientists. He/she is able to use the acquired knowledge in the construction of teaching materials and curricula. Participates in activities and public events to popularise science, such as events organised by the Faculty and the University (Science Fair - Vedecký jarmok, Children's Science Day - Vedecký deň detí).


b) - The institution indicates the professions for which the graduate is prepared at the time of completion and the potential of the study programme from the point of view of graduate's employability.

A graduate of the third (doctoral) degree of the study programme Theory of chemistry teaching in the field of Teacher Training and Education Science is characterised by a high degree of independent, creative, critical and analytical thinking, which he/she applies in unpredictable and changing conditions of scientific research and social practice. Using the acquired professional knowledge and skills, he/she will be able to work as an independent researcher, a professional expert in pedagogically and methodologically active institutions of educational, professional and opinion-forming orientation. He/she can work in the field of science and basic and applied research, in the field of education (especially as a university teacher), in the field of domestic and international education and in the field of state and public administration. The graduate applies scientific research methods and critically analyses existing knowledge on specific problems in various areas of chemistry and science teaching at all levels and forms of education. He/she may work in primary and secondary schools, or in methodological and pedagogical centres as a teacher-researcher or as a worker expected to be able to link research and practice. The graduate is able to propose and analyse theoretical and methodological approaches to solving selected problems in the field of chemistry education, which he/she considers in the context of theoretical discourses. He/she is able to synthesize partial knowledge and apply a systemic approach in researching and analyzing the problems of chemistry education and to use them as a specialized employee of the state administration for the field of education in schools and also in selected cultural and social institutions, foundations, civic associations.

Not relevant to this programme, it is not a regulated profession. In the process of modification of the SP Theory of chemistry teaching the following persons were involved:

3. - Employability
a) - Evaluation of the study programme graduates employability.

The graduate of the third (doctoral) degree of the study programme Theory of chemistry teaching in the field of Teacher Training and Education Science will find employment as an independent researcher, university teacher with continuous scientific and pedagogical activity with the ambition of further qualification growth. With his/her independently conducted, systematic research, he/she connects scientific and pedagogical profiling with practice, implementing interdisciplinary links.

He or she may work in primary and secondary schools, or in methodological and pedagogical centres as a teacher-researcher or as a worker who is expected to be able to link research and practice.

The graduate is able to propose and analyse theoretical and methodological approaches to solving selected problems in the field of chemical education, considering them in the context of theoretical discourses. He/she is able to synthesize partial knowledge and apply a systemic approach in researching and analyzing the problems of chemistry education and to use them as a specialized employee of the state administration for the field of education in schools and also in selected cultural and social institutions, foundations, civic associations.

 

Graduates of doctoral studies in the Theory of chemistry teaching find application in practice as university teachers, as assistant professors and/or scientific researchers, or in the state administration in fields focused on education. Due to the low number of graduates (1-2 graduates per academic year), it is not possible to statistically assess the degree of employability through the UPLATNENIE.sk portal.

b) - If applicable, indicate the successful graduates of the study programme.

c) - Evaluation of the study programme quality by employers (feedback).

Doctoral studies in the Theory of chemistry teaching at Department of Chemistry of FNSaI CPU in Nitra are currently accredited for 3 years and for this reason we do not have graduates in the Theory of chemistry teaching. At present we have two students of the given field, one of them in the external form. Both of them are in a stage after completion of their dissertation examination and defending the written thesis for the dissertation examination.

4. - Structure and content of the study programme
a) - The institution describes the rules for the design of study plans within the study programme.

Doctoral study programme at the faculty is a study programme of higher education of the third level, which is carried out pursuant to Article 54 of the Act. It is carried out in accordance with the Decree of the Ministry of Education of the Slovak Republic No. 614/2002 Coll. on the credit system as amended by the Decree of the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic No. 155/2013 Coll.

Doctoral studies in a given field of study are monitored and evaluated by a departmental committee established in accordance with the Study Regulations for Doctoral Studies at FNSaI. The study, pursuant to Article 65 par. 2 of the Higher Education Act, does not exceed the standard length of study determined by the decision on granting accreditation to the relevant study programme by more than two years, while the study is carried out according to the student's study plan under the guidance of a supervisor.

In accordance with the Dublin descriptors and the National Qualifications Framework, graduates of the study programmes will be awarded level 8 qualifications.


b) - The institution compiles the recommended study plans for individual study paths.

The study programme, the recommended study plan, the individual study plan of the doctoral student and the standard length of study are set according to the Higher Education Act. The study programme follows the rules of the European system for the transfer and accumulation of credits and the student workload per academic year, in accordance with the Study Regulations for Doctoral Studies. 

The study plan is defined in Article 7 of the Study Regulations for Doctoral Studies of the FNSaI.

The study plan for the entire study is prepared by the supervisor within one month after the doctoral student starts his/her studies. The study plan is approved by the chair of the doctoral study departmental committee and is part of the doctoral student's personal file.

The study plan consists of a study part, a pedagogical part and a scientific part.

·         - The study part of the study plan consists of a set of activities related to the doctoral student's self-study, participation in lectures and seminars, participation in domestic and foreign internships, etc. Compulsory and compulsory elective courses are prescribed to the student on the basis of the requirements defined in the graduate profile of the study programme.

·         - The pedagogical part of the study plan consists of tasks related to the performance of teaching activities. The doctoral student's pedagogical activity of no more than four hours per week is usually carried out at the department to which the doctoral student is assigned.

·         - The scientific part consists of activities related to individual or team scientific work. The doctoral student's research activities shall be evaluated in particular on the basis of the doctoral student's publishing activities, active participation in conferences, participation in scientific projects and recognition of his/her results by the scientific community, and other research, development and other creative activities at the workplace as authorised by the supervisor and the head of the department.

Control of the implementation of the study plan is the subject of the doctoral student's annual evaluation


c) - The study plan generally states:

The recommended study plan in the structure of compulsory, compulsory elective and optional courses, courses of state examinations is given in a separate annex.

The methods and forms of teaching, course syllabi, including information on profile courses, data on student workload (“scope” for individual courses and learning activities separately), course syllabi, conditions for awarding assessments and obtaining credits, as well as recommended literature are given in the course information sheets.

The doctoral student obtains credits separately for activities during his/her studies:

a) study activities (min. 20 credits),

b) teaching activities (min. 30 credits),

c) research and development activities (min. 70 credits),

d) successful completion of the dissertation examination, including the defence of the written dissertation (20 credits),

e) defence of the dissertation (30 credits).

Credits for study activities, teaching activities, research and development activities are the minimum values that a doctoral student must obtain in each part of his/her studies in order to successfully complete his/her studies. The condition for the proper completion of the studies is the obtaining of the necessary number of credits according to the standard length of studies as defined by the Higher Education Act. In case that a doctoral student has obtained more than 40 credits in the study part, a maximum of 40 credits shall be counted towards the number of credits according to Article 1, par. 5 of the Study Regulations for Doctoral Studies at the FNSaI.

 

The recommended study plan is included in the Annexes.

d) - The institution states the number of credits, the achievement of which is a condition for proper completion of studies and other requirements that the student must meet within the study programme and for its proper completion, including the requirements for state examinations, rules for re-study and rules for the extension, interruption of study.
In the external form of study, four or five academic years; the number of credits, the achievement is a condition for the proper completion of studies, for a doctoral study programme with a standard length of study five academic years is 240 credits. Pursuant to Article 65 par. 2 of the Act, studies may not exceed the standard length of study determined by the decision granting accreditation to the relevant study programme by more than two years. The conditions for the preparation of the dissertation defence as well as the course of the defence are specified in Articles 11 and 12 of the Study Regulations for Doctoral Studies at the FNSaI. In accordance with Article 8 of the Study Regulations of the CPU the supervisor provides his/her opinion on the doctoral student's request for interruption of studies. Further conditions for interruption of studies are defined in Article 15 of the Study Regulations of the CPU and Article 13 of the Study Regulations for Doctoral Studies at the FNSaI.
e) - For individual study plans, the institution states the requirements for completing the individual parts of the study programme and the student's progress within the study programme in the given structure:
  • number of credits for compulsory courses required for proper completion of studies/completion of a part of studies, 10 credits
  • number of credits for compulsory optional courses required for the proper completion of studies/completion of a part of studies, a minimum of 20 credits for the study part, a minimum of 30 credits for teaching activities and a minimum of 70 credits for the scientific part of the study, a total of at least 180 credits
  • number of credits for optional courses required for the proper completion of studies/completion of a part of studies, -
  • number of credits required for the completion of studies/completion of a part of the studies for the common foundations and for the relevant specialization, in the case of a teaching combination study programme or a translation combination study programme, not applicable for the given study programme
  • number of credits for the final thesis and the defence of the final thesis required for the proper completion of studies, 50 credits (20 credits for the dissertation examination, 30 credits for the dissertation and its defence)
  • number of credits for professional practice required for the proper completion of studies/completion of a part of studies, -
  • number of credits required for the proper completion of studies/completion of a part of the studies for project work with the indication of relevant courses in engineering study programmes, not applicable for the given study programme
  •  number of credits required for the proper completion of studies/completion of a part of the studies for artistic performances in addition to the final thesis in art study programmes. not applicable for the given study programme 
f) - The institution describes the rules for verification of learning outcomes, students assessment and the possibilities of appealing against the assessment.

Clear criteria, rules and conditions for passing the course, taking into account the verification of learning outcomes and the fulfilment of the objectives of the study programme are clearly defined in the infosheet and known to the doctoral student in advance (infosheet availability in the AIS, the obligation to announce the assessment rules by the lecturers at the beginning of the semester).

According to the superior Study Regulations of the CPU, a doctoral student must fulfil the conditions for obtaining credits for a course completed by examination in the regular exam date or in a resit (maximum two resits possible) by the end of the semester in which he/she enrolled in the course. In accordance with the Decree on credit studies, a compulsory course which has been unsuccessfully completed may be re-enrolled during the course of study.

A student may also re-enrol in a compulsory elective course or elective course that he/she has failed or may choose another compulsory elective course or elective course instead. 

The student shall be informed in due time of the dates of assessment and possible resit dates, both for interim assessments and for all examination dates.

The dates of examinations shall be set by the teacher in a reasonable number and timing no later than two weeks before the end of the lecture period of the semester in question. The student has the right to withdraw from the examination date not later than one day before the date for which he/she has registered.

The student also has the right not to accept the assessment of the examination and to register for the relevant resit examination date. In justified cases, the student has the right to request in writing to the Dean of the Faculty a board examination. Based on the proposal of the head of the department providing the relevant course, the dean shall determine the date of the examination and the three-member examination board, usually consisting of the lecturer, the person responsible for the study programme (the chair of the board) and the head of the department concerned.

Further details of the conditions for taking courses, awarding and recording assessments and obtaining credits are regulated by the Study Regulations of the CPU in Nitra.

 

A specific feature of the verification of learning outcomes in the case of doctoral studies is the annual evaluation of the doctoral student by the committee, which is specified in Article 8 of the Study Regulations for Doctoral Studies. The evaluation committee shall, on the basis of the results of the doctoral student's studies, clearly state whether it recommends the continuation of the doctoral student's studies in the following academic year. In the event of a negative opinion, it shall give reasons for its decision.

Every doctoral student has the right to feedback on the assessments provided for all parts of the doctoral student's interim assessment or examinations or annual evaluation.

As part of the periodic monitoring in the form of anonymous questionnaires, the student has the right to comment on the processes of lectures provision, the processes of providing assessments, as well as the professional and didactic competences of the lecturers. The details are set out in Internal Guideline no. 8/2018 Principles of evaluation of education and teachers by

students of the University.

 

In cases where a student has been expelled from his/her studies, he/she may apply for a review of the decision to expel him/her from the studies. The dean may grant the request or forward the request to the rector within 15 days from the date of its receipt, together with the attached file material and a written opinion on the applicant's comments and objections.


g) - Conditions for recognition of studies or a part of studies.

Based on a written request to the Dean of the Faculty, the doctoral student may apply for recognition of credits and assessments, whereby the following categories are distinguished: recognition of assessments from completed motilities and internships within exchange study programmes, recognition of credits and assessments obtained from the student's previous, unsuccessfully completed studies, or recognition of credits and assessments of a student applying for transfer (from another university or in case of change of study programme).

The rules of transfer are defined by the Study Regulations of the CPU in Nitra, as well as by the organisational guidelines of the FNSaI of the CPU in Nitra, namely: the Organisational Guideline on the Recognition of Credits and Assessments from Previous Studies, Organisational Guidelines on the Recognition of Credits and Assessments from Mobility.

The guidelines are discussed in the FNSaI Academic Senate, publicly available at https://www.fpv.ukf.sk/sk/fakulta/uradna-tabula/usmernenia-platne-na-fakulte and known to students in advance before applying for mobility or internship.

i) - The institution describes or refers to:

The topics of dissertation theses for the respective academic year are published by the faculty at least two months before the deadline for the submission of applications for doctoral studies. The name of the field of study, the name of the study programme, the name of the supervisor and the form of study (full-time, part-time) are indicated for each topic. The thesis topics together with the above mentioned requirements are published via the faculty's website. Applicants shall apply for studies electronically or in writing in accordance with the instructions published on the faculty's website. The dean shall invite the applicant to the entrance examination at least fourteen days before the examination, and shall inform him/her of the content of the examination. The propositions of the entrance examination are published on the Faculty's website.

Dissertation topics are provided by potential supervisors who are approved by the Faculty's Scientific Council. They propose dissertation topics usually in relation to a project within which the doctoral student may carry out research, development or other creative activities.

After a successful admission procedure, the admitted applicant continues to be professionally guided and supervised by a supervisor or consultant throughout his/her studies. With the dissertation examination and the defence of the dissertation examination, the doctoral student demonstrates that he or she has profound knowledge in the relevant field of research, is capable of independently acquiring and presenting new knowledge of science and practice, and is able to apply the acquired knowledge in a creative way in practice and research. In the written thesis, the doctoral student shall also indicate the state of development of the dissertation, its further direction in the form of a dissertation project, as well as the results of research, development and other creative activities obtained during the doctoral studies. The supervisor shall comment on the dissertation project in his/her opinion on the written dissertation for the dissertation examination.

Under the supervision of the supervisor, the doctoral student shall prepare the dissertation thesis in accordance with the Guideline no. 13/2021 on final, rigorous and habilitation theses. The dissertation defence itself is public, its preparation and course are characterised by Article 11 and especially paragraph 3 of Article 12 of the Study Regulations for Doctoral Studies at FNSaI.

 

At the dissertation defence, the chair of the examination committee shall give a brief curriculum vitae of the doctoral student, provide information on the topic of the dissertation, essential information from the supervisor's opinion and any written statement from the head of the doctoral student's department, an overview of the doctoral student's scientific or artistic works and the responses to these outputs. The doctoral student shall briefly state the content of the dissertation, its concept framework, results and contribution. The opponents (at least two) shall present the essential parts of their reports; in the absence of an opponent, the chair or a member of the examination committee designated by him/her shall read his/her report in its entirety. The doctoral student shall provide a view on the opinions of the opponents, comment on all the objections and comments made and answer their questions. The chair of the committee shall open a discussion in which all present may participate.

 

Anyone who is interested in the subject under study and the defence of the dissertation may submit their comments to the chair of the examining committee at least one week before the defence or may make their comments orally at the defence. At the defence of the doctoral thesis, the doctoral student shall take a position on such statements or remarks.

The discussion verifies the correctness, validity, scientific originality and relevance of the findings contained in the dissertation. It is the doctoral student's responsibility to respond to all questions raised during the discussion. The result of the dissertation defence shall be announced by the chair of the committee at a public meeting.

Pursuant to Article 8 of the Study Regulations of the CPU, the supervisor submits a proposal to the Dean of the FNSaI for a doctoral student's study stay in other domestic or foreign scientific research and university departments.  

Each faculty department has a designated departmental mobility coordinator who provides initial information about mobility opportunities to students of the respective study programme and at the same time provides advice and assistance in the administration of the mobility application. Support activities for students are provided in the centre directly by the teachers of the study programme of special pedagogy and pedagogy of persons with learning disabilities - counselling.

The counselling also includes work by the faculty coordinator for students with specific needs (the Vice Dean for Education at FNSaI), as well as a departmental counsellor, the so-called tutor, who provide students with advice and consultation, especially in the field of study. The above-mentioned persons assess the possibilities / limitations / and level of risks of studying the respective study programme for students with specific needs. They propose specific reasonable adjustments and support services for the student with specific needs and carry out counselling and mediation activities. The study programme of doctoral studies in a given field of study is monitored and evaluated by a departmental committee established in accordance with the Study Regulations for Doctoral Studies at the FNS. The function of the study advisor in matters of the doctoral student's studies and scientific direction is performed by the doctoral thesis supervisor, whose duties are specified in Article 4 of the Study Regulations for Doctoral Studies at the FNS. In case that the doctoral supervisor is unable to fulfil his/her duties, for example, due to long-term absence, termination of employment or other serious reasons, the dean, based on the proposal of the chair of the departmental committee, shall appoint another supervisor for the doctoral student.

1 -Seminar room with a capacity for 30 students is designed for teaching selected lectures and seminars. The room is equipped with a built-in data projector, a computer with standard software and Internet connection. 

2 - The Biochemistry laboratory is an air-conditioned laboratory used for solving research tasks, students' final theses and for teaching selected laboratory exercises in biochemistry and instrumental methods. 3 - The EPR Spectroscopy and Fluorescence Spectroscopy Laboratory is an air- conditioned laboratory, designed for solving research tasks, students' final theses and for teaching selected laboratory exercises in biochemistry and instrumental methods. It has experimental equipment mainly for spectrophotometric measurements (detection of free radicals, study of the activity of natural and synthetic substances).

4 - The laboratory of inorganic and analytical chemistry is used for solving research tasks, final theses of students and laboratory exercises in analytical and inorganic chemistry. It has experimental equipment for the preparation and processing of samples for spectral analyses (mineralization, shaking, centrifugation, conditioning, modification, drying).

5 - The laboratory of organic chemistry is used for solving partial research tasks (organic synthesis), for exercises in laboratory technology, inorganic and organic chemistry and for solving final theses of students.

 6 - The AAS laboratory is used for spectral analyses for research, for students' theses and selected laboratory exercises in analytical chemistry and instrumental methods. The UV-VIS spectrometer is used to determine the content of natural pigments in plant samples, to monitor the adsorption of substances on biosorbents and the antioxidant activity of Cu complexes with natural antioxidants. The AAS spectrometer is used to determine trace metal and semi-metal concentrations in solid and liquid samples prepared from food, plant, soil and water environmental compartments..

Material equipment: UV-VIS spectrometer Specord 50 Plus equipped with circulation thermostat (Analytikjena), atomic absorption spectrometer Agilent Technologies AA Duo with electrothermal and flame atomization of the sample.

Computing equipment: HP ProDesk computers with Lenovo monitor and HP 24y monitor.

7- The Laboratory of Physical Chemistry and Didactics of Chemistry is used for laboratory exercises in physical chemistry (polarimetry, conductometry, viscometry, viscometry, refractometry, etc.) and for teaching the subject Computer Modelling of Molecules in Chemistry. The given laboratory is also used for specialized seminars and exercises in didactics of chemistry, for realization of experiments in computer-aided laboratory (measuring systems COACH, Vernier).

Material equipment: the infrastructure consists of laboratory tables with 10 workplaces, with electrical (220 V) and gas distribution, with hot and cold water distribution. The laboratory is equipped with laboratory scales and measuring equipment: circular polarimeter, ABBEHO refractometer, inoLab conductivity meter, Ubbelohde viscometers, Traube stalagmometers, pencil waterproof pH meter, pH meter - ORION 2 Star, colorimeter, PR-RI refractometer.

The laboratory includes computers (15 pcs) with Hyperchem licenses (15 pcs).

For teaching didactic disciplines the following are used: laboratory module Electrochemistry, compact laboratory for testing water, soil and air, compact laboratory for testing water Aquamerck, molecular kit, Aquanal - Plus Compact Lab, detective case for research of the environment, complete liquid oxygen kit, complete instrument for gas analysis, software Camtasia 2020EDU, interactive whiteboard, Vernier system for the implementation of demonstration experiments in the framework of laboratory work in the didactics of chemistry with sensors and accessories: CO2-BTA gas sensor, O2-BTA gas sensor, O2 in water sensor, pH sensor, TCA-BTA thermocouple, TMP-BTA stainless steel thermometer, DO-BTA, GO! Temp thermometer, SpectroVIS Plus spectrometer, STIR electromagnetic stirrer stand, biochamber, licensed Logger Pro 3.16 software.

Students have access to the study literature listed in the information sheets primarily through the University Library of the CPU in Nitra and the department's separate book collection and collection of journals and proceedings a departmental library fund.

The University Library of the CPU in Nitra enables to provide all the basic library and information processes and services that are required of a modern library. The library provides internet access and wifi coverage throughout the library premises.

The University Library of the CPU in Nitra also includes the Study Room (studying books, journals and final and qualification theses, possibility of scanning documents, copying, wifi connection, access to databases).

The library collections of the CPU in Nitra currently comprise 275 658 book units and 338 titles of subscribed periodicals, of which 201 are Slovak and 137 foreign. Three periodicals are subscribed on-line in electronic form (https://www.uk.ukf.sk/sk/kniznicny-fond).

CPU in Nitra is an active member of the nationwide project of the National Information System for Support of Research and Development in Slovakia - Access to Electronic Information Resources (NISPEZ IV), which allows to provide information support, including centralized access to the most important electronic information resources, reflecting the current situation in the field of open access to information (Open Access) in the world.

The Department of Chemistry has 433 book units, i.e. 345 titles, of which 90 titles of textbooks and 5 titles of proceedings, as of 2 December 2021. They serve the needs of the scientific and teaching staff of the Department and are also available to students by agreement with the lecturer. In addition, students also use textbooks published by foreign publishers obtained as a gift from a foreign university (23 book titles, 31 copies).

  

The basis of the technical infrastructure of data and telecommunication networks is a fibre-optic network, through which all CPU departments and student houses are connected, which allows students to have continuous access to Internet information resources.

and databases. Wireless signal coverage is currently available in all University buildings via the Eduroam network. The Eduroam wireless (wifi) network is used for students and staff of the CPU to access the CPU wireless network and at the same time to connect guests and students from other universities participating in the Eduroam project. In order to provide basic information support for studies, each student has his/her own university email account for official communication with the institution. In addition to e-mail communication, communication is ensured via the university (www.ukf.sk), faculty (www.fpvai.ukf.sk) and department (www.kch.fpvai.ukf.sk) websites and via the distribution of messages in the AIS system and via large screens integrated into the university's information system. This technology enables the provision of up-to-date information, multimedia presentations and departmental presentations at the most frequented locations of the University. CPU in Nitra operates a number of information systems and information and communication technologies serving the students and staff of the University. We specify only those systems that serve for information provision of the study programme, or by means of which students can access information resources, technologies, etc.:

·    Electronic mail - system for managing e-mail accounts of doctoral students (name.surname@ukf.sk) via the following access: posta.ukf.sk/webmail,

·         Academic Information System (AIS) (ais2.ukf.sk/) - the system processes data on the student's education from the moment of submitting his/her application for university studies, checking and registering records on the course of studies up to the registration and printing of documents on education. In addition to the study results, it also includes the registration of final theses, timetable of classes and students' registration for it. At the same time, data are provided to the Central Register of Students and the Central Register of Final Theses via the AIS. At the management level, the AIS serves as a source for measuring the educational performance of departments and their staff and for conducting questionnaire surveys to assess the quality of education at the CPU.

·         Library Information System (KIS) (kis.ukf.sk) - the system provides several activities of the University Library of the CPU in Nitra, such as online search catalogue, news in the library collection of the university library, electronic orders and forms (registration form and order for interlibrary loan service, order for research), registration (search and entry) of publishing and artistic activities of the staff of the CPU in Nitra,

·         Document management (DOC) (doc.ukf.sk) - the system serves as an authorized zone for employees and students of the university and together with the intranet part of the website provides access to current documents (internal regulations of the university and faculties, forms, decisions of the rector, deans (e.g. in the field of scholarships), software (licensed and open-source, free and freely distributable software), working materials of the management units, etc.,

·         Microsoft Office 365 - a collection of services that allow you to share and collaborate on school tasks. This service includes Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, OneNote, etc.), use of 1 TB of storage in OneDrive, Yammer, and SharePoint sites. Every student and staff member has access to the automatically updated Microsoft Office 365 Education suite for free. This suite of applications is designed for offline or online use. Students can work with the software throughout the duration of their studies,

·         Education Portal (EDU) (edu.ukf.sk) – it is an e-learning portal based on LMS Moodle.


c) - Characteristics and extent of distance education applied in the study programme with the assignment to courses. Access, manuals of e-learning portals. Procedures for the transition from contact teaching to distance learning.

Education at the doctoral level is carried out primarily in the presence form of lectures and consultations. In case of special conditions of study (e.g. regulation of pandemic measures), the transition from full-time to distance education is enabled through the own systems of CPU in Nitra or other platforms. The basic means of communication within distance education includes the student email account, which is assigned to each student upon entering the first year.

One of own systems of CPU in Nitra is the MEET videoconferencing system (meet.ukf.sk), which can also be used via mobile phone. This system can be used especially in lectures, seminars, examinations or consultations on students' final theses. The MEET videoconferencing system allows online video/audio communication (camera, microphone), chat - messages, screen and audio sharing, call recording, live streaming, or sharing of YouTube videos. Students can access the videoconferencing system with the same login credentials as, for example, the Academic Information System (AIS). Other videoconferencing platforms used for distance education include Zoom, Skype, Microsoft Teams or Cisco Webex.

Another system used for distance education is the Education Portal (EDU) (edu.ukf.sk), which is an e-learning portal based on LMS Moodle and is a full-fledged substitute for the full-time form of study. Through this portal, the teacher can create his/her own courses, supplement study materials, check the solutions of assignments and outputs of seminar papers, test students' knowledge online and communicate with them. Students have access to the system with the same login details as, for example, to AIS. Tutorials on how to use the portal can be found in the videos in the Course creation and management menu in the portal or directly on the Moodle YouTube channel.

The e-learning portal of the CPU in Nitra allows students to access study materials, watch videos from lectures, engage in online feedback, be notified of upcoming deadlines, monitor progress in their studies, communicate via messages, send e-mails, submit assignments via PC, mobile and tablet, discuss projects, lectures and test the acquired knowledge.


d) - Institution partners in providing educational activities for the study programme and the characteristics of their participation.

KIn the field of research and experimental support the Department of Chemistry cooperates with the Institute of Polymers of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, Bratislava, Faculty of Technology of the Tomas Bata University in Zlín; contractual cooperation with Progresa Final SK, s. r.o., Bratislava (ZML-2018/1-349:191006). The department has joint published scientific outputs with the above mentioned institutions.

With the association Inovato, o.z., Vráble, it cooperates on the preparation of a research-application project focused on circular economy, the sub-issues of which will form the topics of students' final theses.

 The department also has several years of cooperation with the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava (Department of Physical Chemistry, Department of Inorganic Chemistry of the Faculty of Chemical and Food Technology) in solving projects in the field of experimental, theoretical study and biological activity of complex compounds of transition elements (ZML-2020/1-470:19100). The staff from this partner university participates in the supervision of final thesis of students with experimental support of their department, they are thesis opponents and also members of the committees at the state examinations. In solving projects, the department also cooperates with the Institute of Chemistry of the Slovak Academy of Sciences in Bratislava on syntheses and characterization of organic compounds.

A long-standing partner is also the Wydział Filologiczno-Pedagogiczny in Radon, with which a mutual exchange of teachers has been taking place for several years, combined with professional lectures focused on science education.

The department cooperates within the framework of projects such as: IT Academy - education for the 21st century with Department of Chemistry of the FPV UMB in Banská Bystrica, with the Department of Didactics of Chemistry of UPJŠ Košice and the outputs included a joint publication.

e) - Characteristics of the possibilities for social, sports, cultural, spiritual and social activities.

CPU in Nitra supports cultural and sports activities of students. Student activities are also concentrated in university associations and clubs, which are mainly the Student Parliament of the CPU in Nitra.  (https://www.ukf.sk/univerzita/studentske-kluby-a-zdruzenia).

Culture

The following can be found in the premises of the Student Home Nitra: :

·         University creative studio. It is an integrative cultural point for university students and their artistic bodies to rehearse and realize productions, diverse scenic projects and cultural events.

·         The Ponitran Folklore Ensemble is the artistic ensemble with the longest history at the University and focuses on traditional Slovak folklore with a focus on the Ponitrie region. The mission of the ensemble is to develop students' interest activities, to build on the traditional Slovak culture, to interpret it artistically and to collect folklore material from different areas of Slovakia, especially from the Nitra and Tekov region.

·         The civic association JA a MY (ME and WE) is dedicated to the organization of cultural events, exhibitions, concerts, scientific conferences, seminars, discussion forums, round tables, discussions, as well as the preparation and organization of alternative artistic projects in a national and international context with an emphasis on supporting the all-round artistic development of the region.

·         Other cultural opportunities are offered by the VYDI Student Theatre or the Hungarian Choir of the CPU.

Sport

·         The students of the CPU use the gym and the swimming pool of the CPU in Nitra at the Trieda A. Hlinku 1, the gym in the Student House Zobor and the Fitness Studio and Gym in the Student House Nitra. The Boarding School League in mini football is organised annually in the gym of the Zobor Student House. 

·         CPU annually organizes the Nitra University Days and the Student Days of Nitra Universities, which include sporting events such as the Spring Run through Nitra, Evening Run through Nitra, Dodgeball, Interuniversity Water Slalom Race or Night Climb to Zobor.

·         The Association of Sports Clubs of CPU Nitra, which includes four sports clubs of Volley Project CPU Nitra, BKM Junior CPU Nitra, Taekwon-Do CPU NITRA and the Philosophers Nitra hockey team, plays an important role in the sports activities of CPU Nitra.

Spiritual activities

·         The main objective of the University Pastoral Centre of Paul Strauss in Nitra (UPC) (https://www.ukf.sk/fakulty-a-sucasti/univerzitne-pastoracne-centrum) is to provide pastoral care and spiritual support to students. The UPC organizes regular formation, worship, cultural and leisure activities. It focuses primarily on spiritual renewal, supplementing academic education with a Christian value dimension, providing spiritual guidance, counselling, creating a space for friendly encounters between worshippers and seeking students and staff. It organizes lectures and discussions in theology, culture and other disciplines with the aim of dialogue between faith, science and culture. It provides media resources for spiritual, human and social development of one´s personality, through a library, audio and video archive with religious and other themes.

Social, cultural and sporting events

·         The Nitra University Days (NUD), which take place in spring, offer a series of scientific, sporting, artistic and social events. Traditionally this includes the Rio Carnival in Slovak - an allegorical parade through the city, Superstar of Nitra universities, Majáles (May Festival) or the May Day. Sports events include the Spring Run through Nitra, Inter-university Water Slalom race for students of SPU in Nitra and CPU in Nitra, and tournaments in futsal, basketball, table tennis, volleyball and floorball. The highlight musical, artistic and social event of the NUD comes in the form of the Gaudeamus Gala Evening.

·         Academic Nitra, which takes place in the summer months, is one of the top international festivals of traditional folk culture in Slovakia, where both domestic and foreign folklore ensembles are presented.

·         Oktoberfest offers an annual music concert and various competitions for students.

·         Student Days of Nitra Universities are held in November. It is a set of social, cultural and sporting events for students of the CPU in Nitra and the SPU in Nitra, such as art concerts, theatre and film performances, an exhibition hockey match between the CPU and the SPU, an autumn run through Nitra, and others. The highlight event is the Matriculation Ball of the CPU in Nitra.

·         Additional opportunities for students are provided by the Student Centre (SC) (https://www.ukf.sk/fakulty-a-sucasti/studentske-centrum), which offers students counselling and services to support their activities outside the classroom. Centralised counselling activities include spiritual, financial, career, psychological, legal, social, health and counselling and support for students with specific learning needs.

Doctoral students, on the recommendation of their supervisor or programme guarantor, apply for a foreign mobility or internship through the www.studyabroad.sk application. The requirement to complete at least one internship or study stay of at least 14 days is defined in Article 7 of the Regulations for Doctoral Studies at FNSaI. The completion of the internship or mobility forms part of the doctoral student's studies and is the subject of the doctoral student's annual evaluation according to Article 8 of the Study Regulations for Doctoral Studies at FNSaI.

The process of approving the study stay also includes defining the additional courses that the student will take during the mobility. The awarding of credits and the recognition of assessments for courses studied on mobility beyond the established framework of study is decided by the relevant Head of department on the basis of the recommendations of the guarantor and the supervisor. The recognition of credits and the assessment of a course which does not correspond to any course at the CPU, but which is in accordance with the student's study programme at the FNS, is decided by the study programme supervisor or the head of the department.

9. - Required abilities and admission requirements for the study programme applicants
a) - Required abilities and necessary admission requirements.

The conditions of the admission procedure are regulated by Article 5 of the Study Regulations for Doctoral Students at the FNS

Based on the results of the admission procedure, the Dean shall decide whether or not to accept the applicant within thirty days from the date of the admission examination. The admission of a candidate to a topic offered by an external educational institution shall be subject to the approval of the head of the institution. A copy of the admission decision shall be included in the applicant's file.

10. - Feedback on the quality of provided education
a) - Procedures for monitoring and evaluating students' opinions on the study programme quality.

In accordance with the Guideline no. 5/2009 Principles of evaluation of education and teachers by students of the University and internal Guideline 21/2013 Quality Assurance of Education at the CPU in Nitra (as amended), the FNSaI conducts a regular survey of students' opinions on the quality of the educational process in the form of an anonymous questionnaire via AIS, which is open to students of doctoral studies as well.

The pedagogical activity of doctoral students (to the extent determined by law) is also part of the above-mentioned questionnaire survey organised by the faculty.

A special way of monitoring students' opinions includes informal meetings of the faculty management with student representatives from the student sections of the academic senates of the faculty and the university, which are usually held at the beginning of each semester.


b) - Results of student feedback and related measures to improve the study programme quality.

The results of the evaluation questionnaire can be viewed by the lecturers evaluated by students as well as PhD students through the AIS. The overall processing of the questionnaire is an agenda developed by student representatives and members of the student section of the Faculty Academic Senate. The results are presented at the meetings of the College of the Dean of the FNSaI, as well as at the working sessions of the departments and are discussed by the Academic Senate of the FNSaI. The measures taken are aimed at creating better conditions for study and improving the quality of study at the Faculty.


c) - Results of graduate feedback and related measures to improve the study programme quality.

The results of graduate feedback, or their suggestions and subsequent measures to improve the quality of the study programme can be obtained through personal contacts, conferences of the department, which are also attended by the graduates, their lectures within the study programme, activities of the Student Centre (e.g. Career Days, career counselling). It is also possible to use the potential of university/faculty/department social networks (LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram).
